Omar Accuses Trump of Triggering ‘Constitutional Crisis’ by Cutting USAID

Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) strongly criticized President Trump’s decision to reduce funding for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), calling it a move toward authoritarianism. Speaking outside the USAID offices in Washington, Omar argued that the cuts, part of Trump’s efforts to reduce government spending and the deficit, would harm global humanitarian efforts and U.S. foreign policy. She warned that these reductions would disproportionately affect vulnerable nations and damage the U.S.’s reputation as a global leader. Omar framed the cuts as a power grab, undermining democratic institutions and encouraging authoritarianism abroad. Trump’s supporters, however, defend the cuts as necessary to prioritize domestic issues and reduce federal spending.
