Big Update on House Jan. 6 Committee

Rep. Barry Loudermilk disclosed that House Speaker Mike Johnson assured him that his inquiry into the January 6 Capitol attack would be formalized as a new committee. Though details are still being worked out, a “select committee” could give Johnson more control over its composition and operations. This move keeps the Republican focus on preventing accountability for Trump regarding the attack.

Loudermilk criticized the previous January 6 select committee, accusing it of being overly focused on Trump. Meanwhile, Republicans have reissued subpoenas related to the Hunter Biden case and Biden’s handling of classified documents. Democrats, including Sen. Adam Schiff, have warned against setting a broad pardon precedent.
