White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt highlighted the contrast in accessibility between President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden. She pointed out that Trump took more than 12 times the number of questions in his first hours in office than Biden did in his entire first week. Leavitt emphasized that President Trump’s approach to press availability set a tone of openness.
Leavitt’s comments follow a July 2024 Axios report showing Biden held fewer press conferences and media interviews than the last seven presidents. At that time, Biden had conducted 164, while Trump held 468.
Additionally, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller criticized reporters for not focusing on Biden’s perceived disengagement.
Despite criticisms, Trump’s approval ratings remained strong. Recent polls show a net approval score of +6 points, with higher approval in rural areas, reflecting positive public sentiment about his job performance.
