Canadian national anthem singer fires shot at Donald Trump with controversial lyric change ahead of USA game

Canada triumphed over the United States in the Four Nations Face-Off ice hockey final, securing a 3-2 win in overtime thanks to Connor McDavid’s goal. The event, held in Boston, was marked by political tensions, especially following U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial remarks about Canada.

Before the final, Grammy-winning singer Chantal Kreviazuk performed the Canadian national anthem, but altered the lyrics from “in all thy sons command” to “that only us command,” as a pointed response to Trump’s previous threats and his push to make Canada the “51st state.” Despite audible boos during the anthem, Kreviazuk defended the change on Instagram, explaining it was a deliberate act of protest.

Following Canada’s victory, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau commented on X, “You can’t take our country — and you can’t take our game.” The U.S. anthem was also met with boos during the tournament in Montreal.
