At just five years old, Tommy Chan faced a terrifying moment: a complex open-heart surgery. The hospital was crowded with doctors, nurses, and anxious family members. Clutching his stuffed animal, Tommy tried to stay brave, but he missed someone very special\u2014his Golden Retriever, Archie, who always comforted him during hospital visits.<\/p>\n

Though unusual, the medical staff made an exception and allowed Archie into Tommy\u2019s room. Seeing his loyal friend, Tommy\u2019s face brightened with a smile for the first time in weeks. But then Archie growled at Dr. Hawthorne, the surgeon scheduled to operate.<\/p>\n

The staff was stunned until they noticed the reason\u2014the doctor smelled of alcohol. Thanks to Archie\u2019s sharp instincts, Dr. Hawthorne was removed from the case, the surgery postponed, and another surgeon successfully performed the operation.<\/p>\n

Tommy\u2019s recovery went smoothly after that, and his parents believed Archie had saved their son\u2019s life. The hospital praised Archie\u2019s loyalty and keen senses.<\/p>\n

Inspired by this experience, the Chan family founded The Archie Foundation, a nonprofit bringing therapy dogs to hospitals nationwide. These animals provide emotional support and comfort to patients in stressful situations.<\/p>\n
