Soul legend D\u2019Angelo<\/strong>, born Michael D\u2019Angelo Archer, has died at 51<\/strong> following a private battle with pancreatic cancer<\/strong>, his family confirmed in a statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe shining star of our family has dimmed his light for us in this life,\u201d the statement read. \u201cAfter a prolonged and courageous battle with cancer, we are heartbroken to announce that Michael\u2026has been called home.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rising to fame in the 1990s<\/strong>, D\u2019Angelo was a pioneering figure in the neo-soul movement<\/strong>, known for his use of live instrumentation and his warm, organic sound. His critically acclaimed albums\u2014Brown Sugar<\/strong> (1995), Voodoo<\/strong> (2000), and Black Messiah<\/strong> (2014)\u2014earned him four Grammy Awards<\/strong> and lasting influence across genres.<\/p>\n

Known for his deep musicality and vulnerability, D\u2019Angelo often struggled with the pressures of fame. \u201cHe never was comfortable being a sex symbol,\u201d one insider said, referencing the iconic \u201cUntitled (How Does It Feel)\u201d video that cemented his image but conflicted with his private nature.<\/p>\n
