My Mother-in-Law Betrayed My Trust in the Worst Way<\/strong><\/p>\n

When my mother-in-law offered to host my kids for a school break, I thought it was a sweet gesture \u2014 a chance for bonding and a little rest for me. I never imagined what I\u2019d discover when I picked them up.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m Abby, 34, mom to Lucas, 8, and Sophie, 6. My mother-in-law, Jean, has always been polite but overbearing, constantly offering \u201chelp\u201d that usually came with judgment. Still, when she offered to take the kids for a week, my husband Brad encouraged me to say yes. I even handed Jean $1,000 for groceries and activities.<\/p>\n

When I returned a week later, her smile seemed forced. The house was quiet \u2014 too quiet. I found the kids outside, covered in dirt, exhausted and pale. Lucas ran to me, crying, \u201cShe made us dig all day. She said we\u2019d go to the park, but we never did.\u201d<\/p>\n
