Remembering Kate Kaufling: University of Kentucky Student Passes at 20<\/strong>
The University of Kentucky is mourning the loss of sophomore nursing student Kate Kaufling, who passed away on March 31, 2024, after a brave battle with osteosarcoma. She was 20 years old.<\/p>\n

Kate was a vibrant presence on campus\u2014a member of the UK Dance Team and the Tri Delta sorority, known for her warmth, joy, and resilience. Her twin sister, Abbey, also on the dance team, shared a touching tribute: \u201cMy sweet Kate, you were my person.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Her cancer journey began on June 2, 2023, but Kate continued her nursing studies throughout treatment, embodying dedication and courage.<\/p>\n

UK Athletics executive associate director Sandy Bell said, \u201cKate was not only a great dancer but also a great student in the College of Nursing who took her work very seriously.\u201d<\/em> Head dance coach Dawn Walters remembered her light: \u201cHer smile could light up a room. Everyone on the UKDT loved her.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Kate is survived by her parents, Holly and Steve, and her sister Abbey. Their loss is deeply felt across campus and beyond, by friends, teammates, and faculty who were touched by her strength and kindness.<\/p>\n
