Late show tragedy

Stephen Colbert recently honored his late friend and coworker, Amy Cole, on *The Late Show*. Amy, who worked on the show for many years, passed away from cancer at the age of 53. Colbert dedicated the end of his Monday show to Amy, displaying a title card with the message, “Dedicated to our dear friend Amy Cole, 1970–2024.”

During the taping, the typically lighthearted show took on a more somber tone, with Colbert visibly emotional as he quietly exited the stage after saying, “That’s all for the late show.”

Amy’s colleagues paid tribute to her online. Writer Brian Stack expressed, “Working with and getting to know Amy Cole was one of the nicest things I’ve ever done.” Producer Opus Moreschi added, “Amy was a bright spot of joy, peace, and happiness.”

Director Jake Plunkett called Amy “a bright spot of happiness, light, and calm” and encouraged donations to her favorite charity, Radio Lollipop, saying, “Please help spread the light that she brought to the world.”

Amy Cole was beloved by the *Late Show* team and will be deeply missed.
