President Donald Trump warned reporters Friday that both they and he could be in danger amid rising tensions with Iran over its nuclear program. Trump has given Tehran “a couple of weeks” to reach an agreement with Israel and the U.S., as Israel continues targeting Iranian nuclear sites and leaders.
During a Q&A in New Jersey, Trump suggested journalists were at risk simply for speaking with him. He reaffirmed his belief that NATO countries, not the U.S., should spend 5% of GDP on defense, calling out low contributors like Spain and Canada. Asked about senators possibly undermining peace efforts in Ukraine, Trump warned that reckless speech could have serious consequences. Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo recently highlighted Iranian and Hezbollah terror networks worldwide. Despite rising global tensions, Trump remains popular domestically, with a 53% approval rating. When asked how he’d respond to Iran’s refusal to end its nuclear ambitions, Trump simply replied, “Good luck.”
