DOJ Uses State Secrets Privilege To Block Judge In Abrego Garcia Case

DOJ Cites State Secrets in Deportation Case of Suspected Smuggler

The Justice Department has invoked the state secrets privilege in the deportation case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a suspected gang member and human trafficker, blocking a judge’s request for more details.

Abrego Garcia, deported in March, was previously stopped in Tennessee in 2022 with eight undocumented migrants but released after the FBI reportedly intervened.

Federal agents later linked him to migrant smuggling, and a judge now demands justification for the DOJ’s secrecy claims by May 12, 2025.
