A Romanian man, Thomasz Szabo, 26, pleaded guilty to leading a “swatting” ring targeting U.S. officials, including a former president.
Using aliases like “Plank” and “Cypher,” Szabo and his Serbian accomplice, Nemanja Radovanovic, made fake emergency calls and bomb threats to homes of officials and public buildings.
One incident involved a false murder report at a former president’s home. Szabo chose targets from both parties and directed Radovanovic’s actions. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy and bomb threat charges and will be sentenced in October.
Attorney General Bondi and FBI Director Patel emphasized the dangers of swatting and vowed continued prosecution.
