Rashida Tlaib Calls To Abolish ICE After Agency Detained 11 Iranian Nationals

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) continues to criticize ICE, emphasizing constitutional concerns rather than pushing “anti-ICE rhetoric.” Confronted by reporter Nicholas Ballasy at the Capitol, Tlaib defended her stance, citing personal accounts from her Detroit community, including unlawful ICE actions like warrantless arrests.

She stressed her advocacy is about due process and legal accountability, not abolishing ICE entirely. When asked whether such rhetoric fueled recent anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles, Tlaib stood firm, stating communities have complained about ICE abuses since its creation in 2003. Meanwhile, ICE announced the arrest of 11 Iranian nationals, including Ribvar Karimi, a former Iranian Army sharpshooter, detained in Alabama on a K-1 visa. DHS officials said Karimi violated visa terms and could face deportation. They linked his arrest to ongoing efforts to prevent terrorism amid heightened tensions with Iran. DHS emphasized that ICE remains vital for national security, citing Karimi’s case as an example of the agency’s broader mission beyond immigration enforcement.
