FBI Director Kash Patel is speaking out after bribery and foreign agent charges were filed against Linda Sun, a former aide to New York Governors Cuomo and Hochul. Sun and her husband, Chris Hu, allegedly profited $8 million from a fraudulent PPE scheme during the COVID-19 pandemic, using Sun’s political ties to steer contracts to China-based vendors—including one owned by her cousin. Prosecutors say she falsified documents and acted as an unregistered agent for China. Hu tracked their expected profits in a spreadsheet labeled “Me.” Both now face charges including bribery and wire fraud.
In a separate case, two Chinese nationals, Yunqing Jian and Zunyong Liu, were charged with smuggling a dangerous crop fungus into the U.S., raising fears of agroterrorism. Authorities say one suspect hid the fungus in his backpack. U.S. Attorney Jerome Gorgon called the case a serious national security threat, tying it to China’s Communist Party.
Patel vowed the FBI will not ignore such corruption.
