Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) announced that former President Donald Trump supports her new bill calling for an immediate U.S. census that counts only citizens for congressional redistricting. Greene says the bill will “save America’s elections” by excluding non-citizens from apportionment, which currently includes all residents per the 14th Amendment. The bill mandates a new census and immediate redistricting using only U.S. citizens, bypassing the 2030 census timeline.
This comes as the House passed the “Detain and Deport Illegal Aliens Who Assault Cops Act,” requiring federal authorities to detain and deport illegal immigrants accused of assaulting police. The bill passed 265–148, with 54 Democrats joining Republicans. GOP leaders framed it as a law-and-order measure, while critics called it overly punitive.
Meanwhile, a CNN poll shows Republicans significantly outperforming Democrats on economic issues, surprising CNN’s Harry Enten. Despite Democratic warnings about Trump’s tariff proposals, voters appear to trust Republicans more on the economy.
Taken together, these developments signal a tightening focus on immigration, law enforcement, and economic messaging ahead of the 2024 election.
