Senator Tommy Tuberville officially announced his candidacy for Governor of Alabama during an appearance on Fox News with host Will Cain. Tuberville, a former Auburn University football coach, emphasized his leadership experience and commitment to improving Alabama through economic growth, ending illegal immigration, and enhancing education.
President Donald Trump has endorsed Tuberville’s bid to succeed term-limited Republican Governor Kay Ivey. With Lieutenant Governor Will Ainsworth stepping aside, Tuberville’s path to the governorship looks strong in this deeply Republican state, which has not elected a Democrat governor since 2003.
Meanwhile, Tuberville continues his Senate duties, including pushing for President Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill.” House Speaker Mike Johnson warned on CBS News that some Senate Republicans may weaken the bill by removing key provisions, such as limits on nationwide injunctions by federal courts—a move Johnson supports to curb “activist judges.”
Johnson also refuted claims that the bill cuts Medicaid or SNAP, stating it targets fraud and waste without harming benefits.
