DOJ Announces Massive Arrest as Dems Protest Trump’s Deportations

President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown is showing early results, according to a New York Post editorial, which cites an estimated drop of one million illegal immigrants within five months. The report attributes this to both high-profile deportations of criminals and a surge in “self-deportations” by undocumented migrants fearing imminent removal. Despite not increasing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) resources, the administration is projected to exceed two million deportations in a year. The editorial also praised Trump’s decision to reduce workplace raids, arguing they are ineffective against recent border crossers. Meanwhile, the Justice Department under Attorney General Pam Bondi continues prosecuting violent illegal immigrants, including cartel leaders.

A key case involved Jaime Gonzalez-Duran, alias “Hummer,” a founding member of the Mexican cartel Los Zetas. Gonzalez-Duran was sentenced to 35 years in prison and ordered to forfeit $792 million for trafficking vast quantities of cocaine and marijuana into the U.S. The DOJ detailed his role in violent cartel operations, including bribery, arms trafficking, and control over drug corridors. Authorities previously seized a massive weapons cache from a warehouse linked to him. His conviction, part of “Operation Take Back America,” highlights the federal government’s broader strategy to target transnational criminal organizations and protect American communities. The DOJ reaffirmed its commitment to prosecuting cartel members and disrupting narcotics routes along the U.S.-Mexico border, warning other foreign terrorist-designated groups of serious consequences. The effort combines multiple DOJ task forces to dismantle dangerous networks and reduce the national threat posed by organized drug and immigration-related crime.
