A heavy silence fell over Milwaukee as the city mourned Officer Kendall Corder, a six-year veteran of the Milwaukee Police Department who died on June 29 after an ambush-style shooting days earlier.
Corder, 32, and Officer Christopher McCray, 29, responded to a domestic violence call on June 26 when they were suddenly ambushed upon exiting their squad car. Both officers were rushed to Froedtert Hospital. McCray survived; Corder, tragically, did not.
The department called his actions “noble,” adding, “His bravery and dedication shall never be forgotten.” A solemn procession honored his final journey, as fellow officers and citizens stood in tribute.
In just five months, four MPD officers have been shot—Corder being the sixth officer killed in the line of duty since 2018. His death underscores the growing risks officers face.
Police arrested 22-year-old Tremaine Jones in connection with the shooting; charges are pending.
Officer Corder is remembered not only for his badge, but for his bravery, sacrifice, and love for his city. He gave everything in service. Rest in peace, Officer Corder.
