DHS Launches National Program Aimed at Prompting Undocumented Immigrants to Leave

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently launched a nationwide campaign encouraging undocumented immigrants to self-deport via the CBP Home App. Announced by Secretary Kristi Noem, the initiative offers free plane tickets and up to $1,000 in financial aid for voluntary departure. Participants who use the app maintain eligibility to legally return to the U.S. in the future, per current immigration laws.

DHS warns that refusing the program may result in harsher penalties such as fines, detention, forced removal, and permanent loss of legal reentry rights.

Described as a “final chance to leave on their terms,” the campaign targets undocumented immigrants using digital outreach, including social media and multilingual notifications.

Building on similar Trump-era efforts, DHS estimates tens of thousands have already participated, while independent sources suggest numbers could reach one million. The Mexican government confirmed over 56,000 voluntary returns.

Officials expect participation to grow as awareness of the CBP Home App increases. This program supports the administration’s goal to reduce undocumented populations and prioritize lawful immigration, working alongside ICE and CBP enforcement.
