Newly released FBI interview summaries claim Senator Adam Schiff authorized leaks of classified information during the Trump–Russia investigation. A whistleblower, a former Democratic intelligence officer, alleged Schiff directed staff to leak “derogatory” material about Donald Trump to support efforts to indict him and bolster the “Russiagate” narrative.
Representative Eric Swalwell was named as a possible conduit for the leaks but has denied involvement and questioned the claims’ credibility. The whistleblower also alleged Schiff sought to become CIA Director under Hillary Clinton and used leaks to undermine Trump after her 2016 loss.
The source said the leaks were politically motivated, not about national security, and reported the issue to authorities before being dismissed. Journalist Paul Sperry suggested some leaks reached Washington Post reporter Ellen Nakashima, influencing public perception.
If true, the allegations highlight a blurred line between intelligence oversight and partisan politics. Schiff and Swalwell deny any wrongdoing, leaving the claims contested and highly politicized.
