The Senate Finance Committee had previously advanced Kennedy’s nomination, despite doubts from GOP Sen. Bill Cassidy over his vaccine stance. Cassidy, after discussions with Vice President J.D. Vance, decided to support Kennedy, citing commitments from the administration on health-related issues. Kennedy’s nomination has faced opposition, notably from former Vice President Mike Pence’s organization, which criticized his past support for abortion. Kennedy, who previously endorsed a ban on abortion after the first trimester, has reassured Republicans, stating his personal views wouldn’t impact his HHS policies. He emphasized his commitment to continuing anti-abortion policies from the Trump administration if confirmed.
