A commuter plane crashed in western Alaska on its way to Nome, killing all 10 people aboard. The crash occurred Thursday after the plane lost contact with authorities less than an hour into its flight from Unalakleet. Rescue teams located the wreckage on sea ice, but harsh weather and unstable ice complicated recovery efforts. The plane, a Cessna Caravan, was at full capacity with nine passengers and a pilot. The crash is one of Alaska’s deadliest in 25 years. Authorities are investigating the cause, while locals in Nome express grief and solidarity. This incident marks the third major aviation mishap in the U.S. in eight days.
