A powerful 7.6-magnitude earthquake struck the Caribbean on Saturday, just north of Honduras, at 6:23 p.m. EST. The US Tsunami Warning System issued advisories for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The earthquake, initially estimated at a 6.89 magnitude, occurred at a depth of 6.21 miles. The National Weather Service in San Juan canceled the tsunami advisory by 8:13 p.m. Despite this, the US Tsunami Warning System issued alerts for the Caribbean Sea and areas near Honduras. Residents of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands were advised to stay away from beaches, harbors, marinas, bays, and inlets due to potential risks. The situation is ongoing.
