Sen. Adam Schiff and Rep. Nancy Pelosi, both California Democrats, are criticizing President Donald Trump for fulfilling his campaign pledge to pardon many of the January 6 Capitol riot defendants, most of whom were convicted of misdemeanors like trespassing. Schiff appeared on MSNBC, calling Trump’s pardons “obscene” and “a grotesque display of power,” particularly for pardoning individuals involved in violent assaults on law enforcement, including a Proud Boys leader. Despite this, Schiff’s previous promotion of false conspiracies, including the Russia collusion narrative, added a layer of hypocrisy to his outrage. While Schiff condemned Trump’s actions, former President Joe Biden also issued pardons, including to his family and select individuals, but these were largely overlooked compared to Trump’s controversial decisions.
