SCOTUS Passes On Chance To Overturn Hawaii Second Amendment Ruling

The U.S. Supreme Court recently declined to address a Hawaii court’s ruling on the Second Amendment, which contradicted previous rulings by the nation’s highest court. The Hawaii Supreme Court ruled there is no state constitutional right to carry firearms publicly, citing a clash with the state’s values. Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, and Neil Gorsuch criticized this decision but acknowledged the case was premature for review, as the defendant, Christopher Wilson, had not faced trial on other charges. They suggested that in future cases, the Court may clarify that the Second Amendment protects against unconstitutional firearm-licensing laws. This decision follows another recent rejection of a challenge to a federal gun possession law.
