Musk’s DOGE Preparing to Audit IRS, Other Agencies After Court Win

Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) won a court ruling on Tuesday, granting access to sensitive financial data from several federal agencies, including the IRS. Gavin Kliger, a DOGE software engineer, will receive taxpayer information as a senior adviser to the IRS’s acting commissioner. Critics worry this gives Musk unprecedented oversight, with concerns about potential misuse or leaks of data, citing past incidents like the 2021 leak of Musk’s tax returns. Democratic Senators Ron Wyden and Elizabeth Warren have requested more details. A judge also rejected a bid by 14 Democratic state attorneys general to block DOGE’s access, citing insufficient evidence of harm. Musk’s team aims to reduce government waste and spending, though it has faced legal challenges.
