Republicans Launch New Probe Into George Soros

Republican lawmakers are intensifying their investigation into billionaire George Soros’ acquisition of hundreds of U.S. radio stations, raising concerns about media ownership and national security. Soros, known for his donations to Democratic causes, became a target after it was revealed that his backed fund acquired these stations following the bankruptcy of Audacy Inc., the second-largest radio company in the U.S. The deal granted control over 200 radio stations, and Republicans are particularly upset by the FCC’s decision to fast-track the purchase by waiving regulations limiting foreign media ownership.

House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers criticized the FCC’s approval, which bypassed standard procedures for foreign ownership review. Republicans have sent a letter to FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel, seeking answers about the approval process. They argue Soros’ purchase, especially before the election, could give him undue influence over media and raise national security concerns.
