Longtime Republican Commissioner Bobbie J. Mitchell was critically injured in a stabbing at her Lewisville, Texas, home early Monday morning.
The attack also claimed the life of her husband, Fred Mitchell.
Police say the suspect, 23-year-old Mitchell Blake Reinacher, the couple’s grandson, used a serrated kitchen knife in the assault.
Officers responded to a 911 call shortly before 4 a.m., finding both victims with severe stab wounds. Fred Mitchell died just after 5 a.m., while Bobbie Mitchell underwent emergency surgery and is now in stable condition.
The suspect, who remained at the scene, was taken into custody. He faces charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The investigation into the attack is ongoing.
