Sen. Hawley Reintroduces ‘PELOSI Act’ To Ban Congress From Stock Trades

Hawley Revives Pelosi Act to Ban Stock Trading by Lawmakers

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) has reintroduced the “PELOSI Act,” a bill that would bar members of Congress and their spouses from trading individual stocks while in office. Originally proposed in 2023, the bill stalled but has since gained bipartisan support. It allows investments in mutual funds and U.S. Treasury bonds, with a 180-day compliance window for current and new lawmakers. Violators would forfeit profits and face penalties.

Former President Trump has endorsed the measure, citing Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s trading record as justification. Democrats, including Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, have also voiced support.
