A beloved singer has sadly passed away at her home in Nashville

Christian singer and former American Idol contestant Mandisa has passed away at age 47 in her Nashville home. Her passing was confirmed Friday morning, though the cause remains undisclosed.

In her 2022 memoir, Out of the Dark: My Journey Through the Shadows to Find God’s Joy, Mandisa candidly discussed her mental health struggles, detailing her battles with depression and anxiety after losing a close friend to cancer. She described this period as her “deep dark” phase.

In a 2017 interview with People, Mandisa spoke about the profound impact her friend’s death had on her, causing her to withdraw and seek comfort in food. “When she died, it shook me to my core,” she shared. “I fell into a deep hole of sadness and went back to my old ways, which are food.”

Mandisa’s honesty about her mental health journey has resonated with many, leaving a legacy of inspiration through her music and message.
