When a 10-year-old Icelandic boy sets his mind to building a record-breaking Titanic replica out of LEGO bricks, it’s a remarkable feat — especially when that boy is Brynjar Karl Bigisson. Fascinated by ships from an early age, Brynjar’s obsession with the Titanic grew deep, fueled by countless hours of online research.
Brynjar, who has autism, found comfort and focus in LEGO bricks, which became his best friends when social interaction was a challenge. “LEGO has been an important part of my life since a very early age,” he explained. “While building, I was too busy to feel lonely.”
He knew building the massive 7-meter (26-foot) model alone was impossible, so he enlisted the help of his mother and grandfather. His grandfather even helped create special LEGO instructions based on real Titanic blueprints, while his mother organized a crowdfunding campaign to buy the bricks.
After 11 months of dedication, spending hours daily after school, Brynjar completed a breathtaking replica that amazed many. More than a project, it was a life lesson in focus, belief, and teamwork. Brynjar now shares his inspiring journey in a TED Talk, encouraging others to follow their dreams and never give up.
