Former Fox News host Judge Jeanine Pirro has been appointed interim U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C., by President Trump, prompting speculation about her replacement on Fox News’s The Five. A White House source told The Daily Mail that Alina Habba, Trump’s former attorney and current interim U.S. Attorney for New Jersey, is being considered for the role due to her legal background and assertive personality. However, Fox News stated that a permanent replacement hasn’t been decided and that rotating hosts will fill Pirro’s seat for now.
Pirro’s appointment follows Republican Sen. Thom Tillis blocking the nomination of Ed Martin for the D.C. role due to concerns over his stance on January 6 prosecutions. Tillis objected to Martin’s view that some rioters were overcharged, arguing that anyone who entered the Capitol disgraced the country and should face punishment.
Fox News praised Pirro for her 14-year tenure, calling her a “beloved host” and wishing her well in her new role in Washington.
