Appeals Court Overturns Trade Court’s Decision to Block Trump’s Tariffs

A federal appeals court on May 29, 2025, temporarily lifted a ruling blocking former President Trump’s tariffs, granting a short-term win for his administration.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit stayed an injunction from the Court of International Trade, allowing tariffs to resume while further arguments are reviewed through June 9.

The tariffs, enacted under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, were challenged by states and small businesses arguing Trump lacked authority. A separate D.C. court ruling still blocks other tariffs.

White House officials criticized the judges, calling their actions an overreach against Trump’s mandate to enforce tough trade measures on China, Mexico, Canada, and other nations.
