Louisiana Police Sergeant Caleb Eisworth Dies After Brutal Attack
Sgt. Caleb Eisworth, a decorated Baton Rouge police officer, has died after seven weeks of fighting for his life following a deliberate and violent attack. On June 16, Eisworth, 44, was riding home from his shift when a 41-year-old man intentionally rammed his police motorcycle on Greenwell Springs Road. The suspect was quickly arrested and faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder and hate crimes.
The collision was so severe that Eisworth required the amputation of both legs above the knee in early July. Despite heroic medical efforts and his resilient spirit, Eisworth succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.
Eisworth served law enforcement for 23 years, earning the Medal of Valor and numerous awards for heroism. Baton Rouge Police Chief T.J. Morse praised him as an “amazing officer and a good man,” emphasizing his strength and dedication.
Eisworth leaves behind a grieving wife and 12-year-old daughter. The community has rallied around the family with fundraisers and vigils, honoring his legacy of courage, kindness, and faith.
District Attorney Hillar Moore has announced plans to seek the death penalty for the suspect, pending consultation with Eisworth’s family.
