Biden Judge Blocks Trump Admin From Dismantling Education Dept.

A federal judge in Massachusetts, Myong Joun, appointed by President Biden, blocked former President Trump’s executive order to dismantle the Department of Education, stating such action requires congressional approval.

Joun issued a preliminary injunction to reinstate over 1,300 laid-off employees, arguing the cuts would cripple the department and were not merely administrative.

The Trump administration claimed the move was to improve efficiency but acknowledged Congress must approve any shutdown. Created in 1979, the department can’t be dissolved without legislation.

The administration criticized Joun’s ruling and vowed to appeal, claiming the judge overstepped his authority and that agency reorganization falls under executive power.
