Charlie Kirk Shot at Utah Valley University Rally
Conservative activist Charlie Kirk, 31, founder of Turning Point USA, was shot in the neck Wednesday afternoon while speaking at Utah Valley University (UVU) in Orem. The shooting occurred during the kickoff of his Great American Comeback Tour, sparking panic among a packed crowd of students.
Disturbing footage showed Kirk flinch and then collapse into his chair, blood visible on his neck, as students screamed and scrambled for safety. Witnesses reported the shot came shortly after Kirk had been engaging with the audience by tossing hats into the crowd.
Campus officials confirmed a shot was fired near the stage. Although an alert initially claimed a suspect was in custody—footage showed an older man handcuffed and led away—UVU later clarified no suspect had been officially detained, creating confusion.
Kirk was rushed to a nearby hospital, with his current condition unclear.
The shooting drew swift national attention, with political leaders from both sides condemning the attack and urging prayers for Kirk. Among them, former President Donald Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, Utah Senator Mike Lee, and California Governor Gavin Newsom called for unity against political violence.
Kirk’s tour is now uncertain as supporters and family await updates. The incident highlights rising tensions surrounding his controversial campus appearances.
