President Donald Trump received unexpected support from CNN data analyst Harry Enten, who confirmed that a majority of Americans believe U.S. colleges and universities have a liberal bias.
During a CNN segment, Enten cited polling showing a dramatic drop in public confidence in higher education—from 57% a decade ago to 36%—and noted that 68% of Americans believe higher ed is on the wrong track.
He emphasized that 45% of Americans, and 67% of Republicans, agree that colleges are biased toward liberal ideology. Trump has long criticized higher education institutions for marginalizing conservatives, and these numbers reflect growing public support for that view. Meanwhile, Columbia University reversed course after the Trump administration withheld $400 million in funding over antisemitism concerns. The school agreed to a mask ban, increased police authority, and leadership changes in its Middle East and Palestine studies programs, aiming to make campus safer amid rising tensions.
