Sen. Cory Booker Vows to Keep Fighting Amid Trump Attacks and NJ Lawmaker Arrests
Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) appeared on MSNBC’s The Briefing Thursday, pushing back against recent attacks by former President Donald Trump and vowing not to be silenced. When host Jen Psaki asked what message he had for whistleblowers and critics of the Trump administration, Booker responded emphatically: “Stand up and fight.”
Booker referenced recent arrests of Newark officials, including Rep. LaMonica McIver and the city’s mayor, suggesting a pattern of intimidation targeting local leaders. “Throw me in jail,” Booker said. “I’m going to continue to stand up for what’s right.”
Rep. McIver, who was indicted in May for allegedly assaulting ICE agents, claims the charges are politically and racially motivated. Despite video showing her shoving officers, she insists she was performing her duties. If convicted, she faces up to eight years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
Acting U.S. Attorney Alina Habba defended the charges, asserting that the case is about accountability—not politics. Booker, meanwhile, called for collective courage in defense of democracy.
