The interim U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia may take legal action against Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) over comments many viewed as a threat. On Friday, Edward R. Martin Jr. dismissed 30 federal prosecutors handling Jan. 6 cases, part of a broader effort to overhaul the office and expand investigations into Democratic figures and former Justice Department officials. Sources close to Martin say he plans to scrutinize Schumer, sending a “letter of inquiry” regarding his controversial March 2020 rally remarks. Schumer had claimed that Supreme Court Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh would “pay the price” if they opposed Roe v. Wade, though he later retracted the statement.
