Former Bexar County Democratic Party Chair Juan Manuel Medina has been indicted alongside eight others in a Texas vote-harvesting scheme, according to state prosecutors. Medina allegedly offered compensation in exchange for “vote-harvesting services” during Democrat Cecilia Castellano’s unsuccessful 2024 campaign for Texas House District 80. Castellano, who lost to Republican Don McLaughlin, was also indicted, along with former local officials and political operatives. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who is leading the investigation, said the charges stem from broader efforts to combat voter fraud in Frio County. Paxton recently expanded his probe into 33 suspected noncitizens flagged for allegedly voting in the 2024 election using data from a federal immigration verification system.
Meanwhile, in Arizona, two San Luis women—Gloria Lopez Torres and Nadia Guadalupe Lizarraga-Mayorquin—were indicted in 2022 on charges of conspiracy and ballot abuse stemming from the 2020 primary. The pair allegedly collected and submitted ballots on behalf of other voters, violating state law. These cases highlight ongoing state-level crackdowns on alleged voter fraud and ballot harvesting in recent U.S. elections.
