DHS, Trump Push Back on California Raids Backlash After Undocumented Minors Found Working on Cannabis Farms
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is pushing back against criticism following immigration raids on cannabis farms in California that uncovered the exploitation of undocumented minors, including eight unaccompanied migrant children. The raids targeted Glass House Farms in Camarillo and Carpinteria and sparked clashes with protesters, prompting a strong response from DHS and former President Donald Trump.
DHS publicly challenged Governor Gavin Newsom after he criticized the raids, asking, “Why are there children working at a marijuana facility, Gavin?” DHS also noted the Biden administration has lost track of nearly 300,000 unaccompanied children, many believed to be trafficked or exploited.
Trump, returning from a flood tour in Texas, authorized ICE and DHS agents to defend themselves with “whatever means necessary” after protesters threw rocks and bricks at officers.
A worker reportedly died during the raid, but DHS clarified he fell from a greenhouse roof while not in custody. Border czar Tom Homan condemned escalating anti-ICE rhetoric from lawmakers, linking it to recent violence against agents.
