FBI Turns Over Docs On China Plot To Create Fake Mail-In Ballots During 2020 Election

On June 17, 2025, FBI Director Kash Patel provided Congress with a declassified intelligence report from August 2020 suggesting that China may have attempted to interfere in the 2020 U.S. election. The report alleges that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) mass-produced counterfeit U.S. driver’s licenses to facilitate the use of fake mail-in ballots, potentially to benefit then-candidate Joe Biden. The intelligence was shared with Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) but had originally been withdrawn from circulation during the 2020 election cycle. At that time, then-FBI Director Chris Wray testified there was no evidence of foreign election interference. Grassley argued the bureau dismissed credible evidence too soon.

Patel stated that the documents were declassified in the interest of transparency. He claimed the allegations were initially substantiated but never fully investigated. According to officials who spoke with Just the News, a new FBI confidential source had warned that counterfeit IDs were being produced by the Chinese government as part of a voter fraud scheme. Around the same time, U.S. Customs and Border Protection reportedly intercepted nearly 20,000 fake driver’s licenses, potentially supporting the claims. The report’s release has sparked renewed calls for a more thorough investigation into 2020 election security.
