FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino revealed that agents recently discovered materials from former Director James Comey’s tenure in a previously unacknowledged room.
Bongino said much of it lacked proper processing and is undergoing review for declassification, though some information belongs to other intelligence agencies.
While he offered no specifics, Bongino criticized Comey and linked the discovery to broader internal investigations. Tensions reignited after Comey posted an Instagram photo of seashells spelling “8647”—interpreted by Trump and allies as a veiled assassination threat, referencing the slang “86” (to eliminate) and Trump as the 47th president. Comey denied any ill intent, saying the photo was his wife’s idea and expressing regret over the controversy. FBI Director Kash Patel stated agents have been diverted from critical cases to investigate threats inspired by the post. The FBI is working with the Secret Service, as threats against Trump continue amid heightened security concerns.
