Federal Judge Tosses California’s Lawsuit Over Trump Tariffs

A federal judge in San Francisco dismissed California’s lawsuit challenging President Trump’s tariffs, citing a lack of proper authority.

The case, brought by Governor Gavin Newsom and Attorney General Rob Bonta, argued that the tariffs violated the separation of powers.

Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley’s decision allows California to appeal to the liberal-leaning 9th Circuit. Bonta praised the move, stating the dismissal lets the state continue its legal fight.

The tariffs, imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, were also struck down in other courts. Trump criticized the rulings, while the DOJ seeks to keep the tariffs in place.
