While prominent Democrats like Kamala Harris, Gavin Newsom, and Pete Buttigieg are expected to run for president in 2028, Maryland Governor Wes Moore says he will not.
Despite growing speculation fueled by national appearances, including a trip to South Carolina, Moore told the Associated Press, “I’m not running,” and dismissed interest in a vice presidential role.
Moore emphasized his focus on Maryland, citing his commitment to economic development and reelection in 2026. Meanwhile, Buttigieg is actively raising his profile. After ruling out Senate and gubernatorial runs in Michigan, he’s focusing on digital engagement, meeting voters through podcasts and media events. He told the Washington Examiner he’s not making any political decisions yet but aims to strengthen Democratic messaging. Media figures and influencers, like Girl and the Gov CEO Sammy Kanter, praise Buttigieg’s modern strategy of reaching Americans online and simplifying complex issues, describing him as a standout communicator in the party.
