Wisconsin Circuit Court Judge Hannah Dugan was indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly shielding an illegal immigrant, Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, from ICE agents. Dugan faces charges of felony obstruction and misdemeanor concealing a person to prevent arrest. According to a criminal complaint, Dugan helped Flores-Ruiz avoid ICE by escorting him through a restricted area after his court appearance, bypassing federal agents waiting outside. Flores-Ruiz, previously deported, was in court facing misdemeanor battery charges.
Witnesses, including a court clerk and another judge, testified before the grand jury. Dugan, arrested in April, denies wrongdoing and plans to plead her case in court. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem praised the indictment, asserting that even judges must uphold the law. Attorney General Pam Bondi criticized Dugan for obstructing justice in a domestic violence case. Separately, former New Mexico judge Joel Cano and his wife were arrested for allegedly harboring an undocumented immigrant tied to Venezuela’s Tren de Aragua gang.
