The Secret Service has reportedly assigned Vice President JD Vance the code name “Bobcat,”
referencing his ties to Ohio University and Breathitt County High School—both with bobcat mascots.
Code names are now mostly ceremonial but often reflect personal history.
With Vance heading to Washington as vice president-elect, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine is preparing to appoint his Senate replacement. Republican attorney and Trump supporter Mehek Cooke is a leading contender.
