Just hours before his death, convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein reportedly sent a final chilling message: “Still hanging around.” Journalist Michael Wolff revealed on The Daily Beast Podcast that this eerie message came through one of Epstein’s lawyers the night before he was found dead in his Manhattan jail cell on August 10, 2019. Wolff, who had declined Epstein’s earlier request to write his biography in 2014, said the two remained in touch.
Epstein, 66, was awaiting trial for sex trafficking charges when he died. Despite long-standing conspiracy theories, the Department of Justice recently concluded there was no evidence Epstein was murdered or that he maintained a so-called “client list.” A DOJ memo, obtained by Axios, stated investigators found no credible evidence of blackmail or prominent individuals being implicated.
Attorney General Pam Bondi came under scrutiny after suggesting she had a client list and promising to release it. However, most of the information she later shared was already public, frustrating both critics and conspiracy theorists.
The DOJ memo also explained that much of Epstein’s records were sealed by court order to protect victims and that releasing more information would not serve justice. It reaffirmed the conclusion that Epstein committed suicide and discouraged further speculation.
Michael Wolff concluded the mystery might never be fully resolved, stating, “He could not, as described, have killed himself,” but also, “As the circumstances presented, he could not have been murdered.”
