Johnson: House Dems Face Reckoning After Rejecting Tax Cuts, Border Security

House Democrats are expected to face tough questions during next year’s midterms after unanimously voting against a Republican-backed bill strongly supported by former President Donald Trump.

GOP leaders, including Speaker Mike Johnson, touted the bill’s popular provisions, such as eliminating taxes on tips and overtime, increasing SALT deductions, and permanently extending the 2017 tax cuts.

The bill also funds border security, imposes immigration fees, and scales back clean energy tax credits. It includes a $25 billion missile defense shield and overhauls student loan repayment.

Despite the bill passing narrowly in the House, Democrats opposed it, prompting criticism from Republicans who argue the legislation marks a major step toward economic and national revival.
