Newly sworn-in Attorney General Pam Bondi wasted no time taking action, halting federal funding for sanctuary cities as part of her crackdown on illegal immigration. She criticized sanctuary cities for undermining national security and law enforcement, aligning with the Trump administration’s tough stance on immigration. Bondi also directed the DOJ to reassess funding agreements with NGOs aiding illegal immigrants. In her first days, she plans to combat the weaponization of the legal system, push for the death penalty in certain cases, and collaborate with the Department of Homeland Security to dismantle drug cartels. Additionally, she formed a “Weaponization Working Group” to investigate politically motivated justice actions, including cases involving Trump, January 6, and the FBI’s targeting of Catholics.
